catalytic removal of methane over cobalt chromite (cocr2o4) nanospinels for cng vehicles

چکیده
cobalt chromite (cocr2o4) with normal spinel structure, shows catalytic activity for oxidation of unburned methane in the natural gas vehilcles (ngv). in this study, cocr2o4 nanoparticles were synthesized through a conventional co-precipitation technique and investigated for the catalytic combustion of methane. cobalt nitrate hexahydrate, chromium nitrate nonahydrate and ammonia solution (25%) were used as the starting materials. the obtained results show that the cocr2o4 nanospinels were produced as single phase with an average diameter between 25-50 nm.characterization studies by x- ray diffraction (xrd), n2 adsorption/desorption(bet), field emission scanning electron microscopy (fesem), transmission electron microscopy (tem), temperature program oxidation (tpo) and o2- temperature programmed desorption (o2-tpd) were carried out.the specific surface area (sbet) of the synthesized nanoparticles was measured using multiple point brunauer–emmett–teller (bet) method.40 m2.g-1 was obtained for cocr2o4 nanoparticles. the results revealed that cobalt chromite nanoparticles have significant capability for methane conversion at 435oc.

متن کاملCatalytic Abatement of Methane Emission from CNG Vehicles: An Overview
Compressed natural gas (CNG) is a substitution of alternative fuel for automotive application with significant environmental advantages as it is the only fuel cheaper than gasoline or diesel, comparatively lower air pollution emissions, lesser CO2 emissions. However, emission of methane is 40% more in CNG fuelled engines compared to gasoline and diesel. With the exponential growth in CNG fuelle...

Catalytic Partial Oxidation of Methane over Fe2(MoO4)3 Catalysts
The study of new energy carriers for sustainable energy conversion processes is a hot research area. Among the potential energy carriers one finds biogas, containing a large fraction of methane, which attracts high interests worldwide. However, to be more useful, e.g., concerning storage and transportation, conversion of gaseous methane fuel into liquid fuel like methanol is desired. The conven...
متن کاملApplication of spinel-type cobalt chromite as a novel catalyst for combustion of chlorinated organic pollutants.
Various chromium-containing catalysts were tested for the total oxidation of trichloroethylene (TCE) as a model reaction for the catalytic combustion of chlorinated organic pollutants. A spinel-type cobalt chromite (CoCr2O4) among others was proven to be a very promising catalyst showing higher activity and higher CO2 selectivity than traditional alumina supported chromia. Even if both Cr3+ and...
متن کاملCatalytic Combustion of Methane
Catalytic combustion is an environmentally benign technology which has recently reached the stage of commercialization. Palladium is the catalyst of choice when considering gas turbines fuelled with natural gas because of its superior activity for methane oxidation. Several fundamental issues are still open and their understanding would result in an improvement of the technology. Hence, the wor...
